How we grow
Permanent beds, compost on top, soil never bare
Every practice, in the open. Ask about any of it.
The practices
- No-till: beds are never ploughed or rotovated
- Compost spread on top of every bed each season
- Close planting in succession, so beds are never empty
- Cover crops and mulch over winter
- No synthetic fertilizers or pesticides
- Drip irrigation, watering the root not the leaf
- Row cover for pests and frost instead of sprays
ONE BED, ONE YEAR
What a single bed does in twelve months
February
Compost
An inch of compost raked over the winter cover.
March
Salad
Transplants go in under row cover. Cut from April.
June
Beans
The salad comes out; beans go straight in on a trellis.
September
Garlic
Beans cleared, garlic cloves planted for next summer.
November
Covered
Mulched over the garlic and left until spring.
